Two things follow from that, and both matter more than the summary that usually survives into a headline. First, this is real evidence of a real, if modest, effect on falling asleep faster — not nothing, and not a study that failed to find anything. Second, and this is the detail that gets lost: every trial in that review dosed magnesium in the evening, because that’s the natural way to design a sleep study. None of them tested a morning dose against an evening dose in the same people. So the review supports “evening dosing has been studied for sleep and shows a modest effect in low-certainty trials.” It does not support “evening dosing works better than morning dosing would,” because that specific comparison hasn’t been run.
